At CRC, we believe that supporting families goes beyond the classroom and our regular programs. Sometimes, the most meaningful moments happen when families come together, share a meal, enjoy the outdoors, and simply spend time with one another.

This August, CRC hosted our annual summer BBQ outing at Larz Anderson Park in Brookline, Massachusetts. We were delighted to welcome both our returning families and several new families to join us for a wonderful day of food, friendship, and fun.

With beautiful weather, delicious food, and plenty of smiling faces, it was a special opportunity for our CRC community to come together in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

A Beautiful Day of Food, Fun, and Friendship

The weather could not have been better for our annual summer gathering.

Our dedicated volunteers helped prepare and grill food for everyone, while children enjoyed the freedom of playing at the playground, running around, and spending time outdoors.

It was wonderful to see the children laughing, playing, and enjoying themselves in an open environment, away from their usual classroom activities.

For many of our families, these simple moments of happiness are especially meaningful.

The BBQ outing was not about following a schedule or completing a particular activity. It was about creating a space where everyone could feel comfortable, enjoy the day, and simply be themselves.

A Time for Parents to Relax and Connect

One of the most important purposes of CRC's annual BBQ outing is to give parents a chance to take a break from their daily responsibilities.

Raising a child with special needs can require tremendous patience, time, and dedication. We recognize that parents often have very few opportunities to truly relax and spend time connecting with others who understand their experiences.

During the outing, our volunteers spent time playing and interacting with the children, giving parents an opportunity to sit down, enjoy a meal, have conversations, and take a well-deserved rest.

For some parents, it was a chance to reconnect with familiar friends. For others, it was an opportunity to meet new families, exchange experiences, and build friendships.

Sometimes, simply having someone to talk to who understands your journey can make a meaningful difference.

At CRC, we hope these gatherings remind parents that they are not alone and that they are part of a caring and supportive community.

Welcoming New Families Into the CRC Community

This year's BBQ was also a wonderful opportunity to welcome new families into CRC.

Joining a new organization can sometimes feel unfamiliar, especially for families who may not know anyone or are still learning about the support available to them.

Unlike our regular classroom programs, an outdoor gathering provides a more casual setting where families can get to know one another naturally.

Children can play together, parents can share conversations, and volunteers can begin building relationships with the families they hope to support.

For our returning families, the outing was another opportunity to strengthen the friendships and connections they have developed over the years.

For our new families, we hope it was the beginning of many meaningful relationships within CRC.

Building trust and a sense of belonging takes time. Events like our annual BBQ help create the space for those relationships to grow.

More Than Just a Summer BBQ

Our annual BBQ outing is much more than a day of good food and outdoor activities.

It is an important part of CRC's mission to support Chinese families raising children with disabilities.

While our regular programs focus on helping children develop their skills, confidence, and independence, we also believe it is equally important to support the emotional and social well-being of their families.

A few hours of relaxation, a friendly conversation, or seeing their children happily playing with volunteers can bring comfort and encouragement to parents.

For our volunteers, the outing also offers a different opportunity to connect with the children and families outside the structured classroom environment.

These shared experiences help everyone get to know one another better, strengthen mutual trust, and develop relationships that extend beyond our regular programs.

At CRC, we believe that strong relationships are the foundation of a strong community.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Volunteers and Supporters

This wonderful event would not have been possible without the generosity, dedication, and teamwork of so many people.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to our organizers, teachers, and leaders who helped coordinate the outing and ensure everything ran smoothly.

A special thank you also goes to our volunteers who helped prepare food, worked at the grill, played with the children, and made sure everyone felt welcome and included.

We are especially grateful to those who invited their own friends and family members to participate and support our CRC community.

Their willingness to share their time and bring others together reflects the spirit of CRC—one built on kindness, compassion, and a genuine desire to support one another.

Every helping hand, every conversation, and every moment spent with our families contributed to making this gathering memorable.

Growing Together as One CRC Family

As we reflect on this year's summer BBQ, we are reminded that some of the most meaningful experiences do not require complicated activities or special programs.

Sometimes, all it takes is a beautiful day, a shared meal, children playing happily, and parents enjoying a moment of peace.

Our annual outing is a reminder that CRC is more than a place where children attend programs. It is a community where families can build friendships, find encouragement, and grow together.

We look forward to continuing this annual tradition and welcoming even more families, volunteers, and friends in the years ahead.

Most importantly, we hope every family who joined us left with happy memories and a stronger sense of belonging.

Because at CRC, we believe that when families come together, friendships grow, trust deepens, and no family has to walk their journey alone.
